Patient Education

Many studies have shown that patients who take an active role in their treatment have more positive feelings about their situations. An important resource is “information.” You, the patient, are an important part of the healthcare team. One of the best ways that you can equip yourself as a member of this team is through education. Jackson Oncology Associates is committed to providing patient education about your illness and care. The physicians, nurses, and support staff will work directly with you to help you understand your diagnosis and treatment plan. If you are a chemotherapy patient, you will receive a packet of helpful educational material about therapy, your drugs, coping strategies, managing side effects, and community resources. Be sure you are getting enough information about your treatment and what is happening to you. If you have any questions, ask them. As you know more about what is happening you’ll feel more comfortable. Make a note of any questions and concerns and bring to your visit.

JOA offices have patient brochures and patient information available regarding diseases, treatment, follow-care and various other topics.

The Hederman Cancer Center site offers a Resource Library that provides reading material, videos and Internet access. Information is available about prevention and early detection of cancer, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care.
